Community Autonomy and Place-Based Environmental Research

Academic and government-directed research is generally portrayed as a benign problem-solving enterprise. There long record of important theories, discoveries, solutions to sticky problems that has produced. But alongside this list advances in knowledge, there been damage individuals communities whole when place-based not implemented thoughtfully. Researchers conducting community-facing projects are increasingly aware may generate risks at community level. This literature review identifies set dynamics through which environmental can undermine autotomy where takes place offers recommendations for researchers institutions who wish adopt practices institutional supports honor autonomy.
